
Two-Time US Olympian and Five-Time Gate River Run Champion and Record Holder Todd Williams has created an endurance building system that can benefit all athletes who are looking for an advantage when the going gets tough at the end of the match, game or race. The bottom line in the world of high level athletics is that you have to be one step ahead in training to get the edge on your opponent: Second Half Training is that edge!
Todd Williams has spent the majority of his life involved in athletics. In High School, Todd won six state titles in cross country and track, setting state records in the two miler and earning 1st team All- American honors his junior and senior years. In College (University of Tennessee), he earned seven 1st team All-American honors in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track. In addition, he won four SEC titles, and set school records in 3000m, 5000m and 10000m which still stand today, as well as leading the Volunteers to a National Title during his senior year as Team Captain. After college, Todd went on to win twenty US titles including five in Jacksonville at the Gate River Run 15k, setting the still standing American record in 1995 running 42:22. Most importantly, Todd qualified for two summer Olympic teams, representing the United States in Barcelona (1992) and Atlanta (1996). After retiring from competitive running in 2003 he was quoted as saying, “I maxed out and I couldn’t have done anything more.” As demonstrated, Todd’s career has been filled with achievements and accomplishments, and now he’s ready to give back his knowledge with the creation of Second Half Training!
What specifically is Second Half Training? A high intensity running program that will increase the athlete’s endurance so he or she can finish strong at the end of their match, race or game. Second Half consists of interval, tempo and distance runs to specifically increase the athlete’s ability to outlast their opponent during the second half of the event.
Who should sign-up for Second Half Training? Second Half Training is only for athletes who want to work! In other words, Second Half Training is for those athletes who want to out perform their opponent, achieve outstanding results for their team, and push themselves to be better performing and better disciplined competitors!
Is Second Half Training a one-on-one or group program? Todd prefers to work with groups for scheduling purposes and his experience demonstrates that good athletes are proven to step up their game when surrounded by peers. In Second Half Training, Todd uses peer encouragement to bring individual performance to that next level!
